Hiking & Exploring Alaskan Wilderness

In the late 1800’s the head of the bay was home to a community of 800 miners. The resulting ruins of the settlement, abandoned equipment and mine shafts found in the surrounding hills offer interesting excursions. This is the area said in legend to be the location of the Lost Rocker Mine. If one is an ardent hiker, scaling the peaks and ridges at the head of the bay will afford a glorious view of Endicott Arm and its Dawes Glacier. The outer bay islands and headlands were the home of Native Alaskan villages, early white settlers and fox farmers. While hiking in the area one must be prepared to encounter the occasional bear. Windham has a lengthy history waiting to be explored.
